Primary Care Alignment Team

Asthma and Vision Pilot Event

Overview:

The Children's Health Executive Oversight Alignment Team has recently

steered their focus toward seven educationally-relevant health disparities. Of these seven, the Primary Care Alignment Team has decided to take a particular interest in addressing two of these disparities, asthma and vision. This team has chosen to begin a pilot series that targets parents and teachers within the community. With this pilot series, this team plans to conduct and expand asthma education training to teachers and parents and to develop communication, awareness, and education around the importance of vision screenings.

Pilot Event:

The series will be designed to educate and raise awareness about the importance of asthma and vision and how they can affect students' success in the classroom. These meetings will also provide time for parents to ask questions and for students to receive screenings. They will be held in the evenings and snacks will be provided to participants and their families. The pilot focus areas will be in areas of greatest need (Antioch & McGavock Clusters) and will be held at high schools within these areas.

Resources Needed:

For this pilot series, the Primary Care Alignment Team is looking for

  • Volunteer Presenters
  • Volunteer Physicians

The team would like to have presenters with experience in pediatrics, particularly with asthma and vision. Volunteer physicians are also needed to offer FREE asthma and vision screenings for kids who will attend these pilot events.
