Description: The Healthy Beginnings Program conducts home visitation services for first-time mothers of any age (prenatal or postpartum) and their babies to provide supportive services to new moms which includes: Education on parenting skills, baby's growth & development, child safety, promotion of regular medical care, and disease prevention. Also, resources, referrals, and other information and assistance are provided as needed to help lessen the burden of new parenthood.

Description: The Sexual Assault Center provides individual and group counseling for victims and survivors of sexual assault. To start the healing process, please call our Intake Specialist. In addition, a 24-Hour Crisis Line is available for immediate assistance.

Hours: SAC's hours of operation are 8:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. on Fridays. However, therapy appointments are often scheduled before or after typical business hours to best meet the needs of our clients. SAC also has a 24-hour crisis line that is available to anyone in Middle TN in need of assistance after hours.
Cost: SAC accepts most insurance plans and offers a sliding fee payment scale according to income. Grant funding is available for specific qualifying cases. We will not turn anyone away for lack of ability to pay.
Adolescent Healthy Futures Program

Description: The Family Youth and Infant Division provide staff support and consultation to this program. This program is working to reduce teen pregnancy through a large variety of community awareness and educational programs targeting high risk teens.
Centering Pregnancy® at Meharry Medical College

Description: (1) CenteringPregnancy® -- Pregnant moms will be in a group with other moms whose due dates are close to theirs. In each session, they will have private time with their healthcare provider and some refreshments. Then they will meet as a group to discuss questions, concerns and solutions. They will have the opportunity to create their reproductive life plan.
(2) A certified nurse midwife will lead parenting classes about a variety of topics including infant care, breastfeeding, infant/child CPR, safety issues, child nutrition, and growth and development.
(3) Parenting women can receive a gift bag – compliments of Mother to Mother, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing TN families in need with essential equipment, clothing and products for their infants and young children.

Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee

Description: Nurses for Newborns (NFNF) is a registered nurse home visiting program for pregnant teens, women, infants and children. Our Teen Program serves young women up to age 18 both prenatally and after delivery. Our "Bridge to the Future" program focuses on medically fragile babies, most of whom started life in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The "Safe Beginnings" program assists mothers who are medically or mentally challenged. Services include maternal and infant health assessments and on-going education concerning pregnancy, postpartum care, newborn care, breastfeeding, safety issues, growth and development and family wellness. Our nurses assist clients with finding available resources. Client referral forms should be faxed to our office at (615) 313-9979.
Cost: NFNF is a free service to the client.
HUGS Program (Metro Public Health Department)

Description: HUGS (Help Us Grow Successfully) is a home visiting case management program for pregnant teens, women, infants and children up through age 5 years. Services are offered by registered nurses and program specialists. Services include on-going education concerning pregnancy, postpartum care, family planning, newborn care, breastfeeding, safety issues, and family wellness. Case managers also educate and assist clients with obtaining available resources and make appropriate referrals to help the client build self-reliance skills.
Cost: HUGS is a free service to the client.
Shade Tree Early Pregnancy Program (STEPP)

Description: Shade Tree is a teaching clinic held once a month. At clinic, pregnant women are seen by medical students and nursing students as well as an attending MD or midwife. We do not provide ultrasounds at our clinic, but we will refer patients to get one if indicated. There is no charge for the appointment. After the appointment we help people apply for insurance, and then we refer patients on to the West End Women's Center or 100 Oaks for the remainder of their prenatal care.

Description: We work to ensure that low-income families and individuals across Middle Tennessee have access to information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps. We assist with applications, benefits screenings, as well as advocate on behalf of clients who have been incorrectly denied benefits.

Description: Unplanned Pregnancy Options Counseling for young women, male partner and parents of both.
~ Pregnancy tests
~ Limited OB ultrasound- $40 fee
~ Bridge Program- a program to educate and equip clients with life skills including but not limited to: financial, conflict resolution, prenatal care and parenting skills. Participants earn points to gain material assistance (maternity clothing, baby items including diapers, wipes, food, clothing and furniture) while gaining education and receiving ongoing counseling and/or mentoring support.
Post Partum Depression
Counseling - Though 80% of new moms develop "Baby Blues", 10-20% experience symptoms of depression that require treatment. It is a more serious and major form of depression that usually occurs within a few months of delivery and can last up to a year.
Our counseling is the first step to relief. Provided on a sliding scale basis.
Pregnancy Loss Counseling for post abortion, miscarriage, still birth, and infant death. According to the American Pregnancy Association, 33% of the 6 million pregnancies each year end in pregnancy loss including miscarriage.
We are safe and confidential place to receive counseling in a nonjudgmental and loving environment. Provided on a sliding scale basis.
Prevention Medical Visit for Young Women ages 13-18
We discuss:
· Nutrition and physical activity
· Sexual practices and safety, and do STD testing and examinations when appropriate (for high risk sexual behaviors we discuss preventing unintended pregnancy and STD's)
· Driving safety, internet safety, skin care, hygiene
· Personal goal development, peer relationships, bullying, and the school experience
· Alcohol, tobacco and drug use
This visit is intended more for relationship building as a safe place for the teen females to be open and ask questions. It is geared toward education and prevention. A guardian does not have to be notified or present.

Description: The Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) provides hands-on nutrition education through a series of meetings to low-income families. EFNEP promotes healthy eating practices through wise use of resources. EFNEP is a free program for parents who are looking for fun ways to feed their families nutritiously without spending a lot of money. At EFNEP meetings you will receive nutrition information, recipes, measuring tools, food thermometers, a stretch band, grocery shopping list, and a graduation certificate from the University of TN. Meetings are usually in groups near where you live, or you can participate as an individual. A Community Nutrition Educator will teach you how to cook healthy foods that taste good, plan meals and snacks, save money on food, keep food safe and be physically active. New foods can be prepared and you will taste new recipes at each meeting. EFNEP can also offer you information on healthy eating during pregnancy, feeding your new baby, feeding your baby solid foods, and feeding young children.

Description: If you are pregnant, you may be eligible to get temporary TennCare right now. This is called “presumptive eligibility.” This will cover your visits to the doctor and other medical services while you are pregnant. Even if you get temporary TennCare, you will need to fill out the full application. The health department does not provide prenatal care only presumptive enrollment into TennCare.

Description: MCBP is a community based support program focused on pregnant adolescents 14-24 years of age. Participants are matched with women in the community who offer support, help with healthy decision making, and navigating the health care system.

Description: The MIHOW program improves health among families by providing education, emotional support, and links to medical and social services. MIHOW is part of Vanderbilt School of Nursing. MIHOW provides free pregnancy groups (six sessions) to expectant parents to help them prepare for a healthy pregnancy and delivery, promote breastfeeding and safe sleep, and learn some successful parenting strategies. All participants who complete data requirements will receive an incentive, including diapers and other baby items. Outcomes for the program include increased knowledge regarding healthy pregnancy and breastfeeding. Participants also receive a phone call after the baby is born to ask about breastfeeding.
